To supplement our Posture Breakdown Guide, we’re launching a series of videos where we break down common yoga poses to help you shore up your form.
In this video we dive into downward facing dog (aka “downward dog” or “down dog”). This is a foundational yoga pose, and you’ll find it in just about every sequence.
You’ll see it in vinyasa flows, sun salutations (we prefer to say Son salutations since we worship the creator, not creation), and it’s often used as a transitional pose, a resting pose, and a strength building pose.
I can hear you thinking “Resting pose?? Sure, for you crazy yoga masters, but not for the rest of us. My [insert body part] gets tired in this pose!” True, downdog can be a challenging pose to hold for any length of time. Hence the strength building aspect. But when it’s mixed in with a more challenging sequence or pose, a downdog can be a welcomed break!
Enough yappin’…here’s the video!
